Cisco has been active at this year’s show, especially in light of the recently announced acquisition of Jasper. Cisco Jasper’s industry-leading cloud-based IoT service platform enables companies of all sizes to rapidly and cost-effectively launch, manage and monetize IoT services on a global scale. This comprehensive IoT service platform empowers service providers, enterprises, and ecosystem partners to build connected service businesses that enhance their customers’ experiences while creating new, recurring revenue channels.
Highlights:
· Cisco is announcing broad support for Profinet, the open Industrial Ethernet standard used for factory and process automation
· Extended collaboration with Rockwell Automation to enhance industrial IoT security
· Cumulocity collaborates with Cisco Jasper on IoT service platform
· Third Cisco Innovation Grand Challenge details announced
Connected Factory Profinet: this solution offers end-to-end capabilities for smart manufacturing. With this announcement, Cisco brings world class IT leadership to the Profinet market with Industrial Ethernet switches that meet the latest Profinet standards. The solution combines Cisco’s IT expertise with Profinet Industrial Automation for design and implementation. This provides customers with design and implementation guidance in the form of a Cisco Validated Design. With the support of Profinet, Cisco is embracing Industry 4.0, and helping customers navigate this next revolution.
Cisco and Rockwell Automation: the Cisco and Rockwell Automation teams have extended their collaboration by developing a deep-packet-inspection (DPI) technology for use in industrial security appliances. When used between industrial and cell/area zones in a Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architecture, a plant floor application using DPI technology helps prevent unauthorized users from tampering with firmware – protecting the integrity of the industrial control system. With this solution, both Plant and IT managers can more securely manage network traffic throughout the enterprise.
Cumulocity and Cisco Jasper: Cumulocity, a leading mobile application enablement platform, is collaborating with Cisco Jasper to enable enterprises to streamline the delivery of IoT services and applications through connected devices. This allows Cumulocity to integrate the functionality of the Cisco Jasper IoT service platform, making it easy for joint customers to manage the delivery of IoT services and applications on the Cisco Jasper platform from within Cumulocity.
Innovation Grand Challenge and openBerlin: in connection with IoTWF, Cisco is announcing the third annual Cisco Innovation Grand Challenge. The Challenge will recognize startups, entrepreneurs and developers around the world showcasing the most breakthrough digital technologies, products or business models. Finalists will be invited to Berlin to present to a panel of industry experts. The submission process will open May 25 in conjunction with the Pioneers Festival in Vienna. Grand Challenge winners receive over $250,000 in prize money, as well as mentorship and support from Cisco.
Cisco has previously recognized Berlin as a strategic city in its IoT efforts, having opened the openBerlin Innovation Center in October 2015. As part of Cisco’s global footprint, openBerlin serves as one of nine Cisco Innovation Centers worldwide, with the aim of bringing together customers, industry partners, startups, application developers, accelerators, government organizations, and universities to solve industry problems. openBerlin is specifically focused on fostering innovation in manufacturing, logistics and transportation.
“It is an incredibly exciting time in the Industrial IoT market, and we are really pushing this market forward at Cisco, “ said Tony Shakib, Vice President of Cisco's IoT Vertical Solutions Engineering. “Our announcements at Hannover are reflective of Cisco’s leadership in the space and our promise to continue innovating to meet customer demands. The fact that we selected Germany for IoTWF to share even more innovations with customers and partners demonstrates how valuable this region has become in advancing IoT technology.”
As the host of IoTWF, Cisco plays an important role in bringing together today’s most innovative companies to address the digital world. Working with partners like FANUC to connect robots, Rockwell to create factories of the future, and with manufacturers like Hyundai to create new connected car technology, Cisco plays a central role in creating innovative solutions that take advantage of IoT. Attendees of the IoTWF will walk away with a clear sense of major priorities and challenges facing business as the world migrates towards IoT. Registration for the IoTWF will be launched in June.
