MOSCOW – October 14, 2013 – TransTeleCom (TTK), one of Russia’s largest telecom operators, announced the commercial launch of its 100G Ultra Long Haul (ULH) dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) network in the St. Petersburg-Moscow and Moscow-Chelyabinsk-Yekaterinburg segments. The coherent optical technology increases the backbone network capacity from 40 to 100 gigabits per second per optical carrier. Successful completion of the project will help ensure consistently high connection quality for TTK’s corporate and private customers.
Launch of the segments with a total length of over 3000 km completes the first stage of the company’s project to create a national 100G ULH DWDM network. The operational segment amounts to about 20 percent of the whole TTK 100G network under construction.
The project for using TTK’s backbone infrastructure to construct a transport network based on the coherent technology of 100G ULH DWDM is being implemented on Cisco® optical solutions. Cisco’s cutting-edge telecom equipment has made it possible to create the world’s longest unregenerate data transfer segment in land line networks in commercial operation – 2600 km, from Moscow to Yekaterinburg – in the first stage of the project.
