MOSCOW, Russia - April 25, 2008 - Cisco today announced that the Russian Automotive Association (RAA) has completed first stage deployment of a new end-to-end network using Cisco® technology. The new Internet Protocol (IP)-based network, which connects 15 RAA branch offices across several Russian regions, helps improve data exchange between RAA headquarters and branches. The benefits to RAA are greatly enhanced network performance, resulting in significant productivity and efficiency gains, and reduced Operational Expenditure (OPEX).
As Russia's first nationwide company offering technical and legal assistance to car owners on the road, RAA has a requirement for many remote offices across Russia. To support these offices RAA had to modernize its network to improve the quality of data exchange between headquarters and branches. The new solution had to be scalable, fault-tolerant and, in the event of problems in the service provider network, flexible enough to support remote access from the branches to headquarters.
At the design stage, RAA had to solve the issue of different branch networks across Russia being supported by different technologies that were dependent on availability of local infrastructure. As a result, a common RAA network infrastructure has been planned and will be rolled out in several phases. The first phase involved deployment of common Internet access technology in all RAA branches. Future plans involve connecting the headquarters and branches, one by one, via two service provider networks to help achieve redundancy and resilience of business processes.
The project was developed and implemented by Computer Business Systems (CBS), a Cisco Premier Certified Partner. From the outset, CBS experts were able to quickly prepare several options for network deployment, with detailed plans for migration from the legacy technology to an all IP network. Pro-active testing and debugging helped ensure an easy transition.
CBS specialists installed Cisco 2800 and 1800 Series Integrated Service Routers that support flexibility and scalability using Cisco's Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) and multi-functional Cisco Internet Operating System (IOS). Cisco solutions help ensure fault-tolerance in branch connectivity with automatic failover, load balancing and recovery features.
The flexibility of the new Cisco hardware makes it possible for businesses to deploy it at different stages of network development, which helps enable infrastructure expansion without significant capital investment.
