Rangsit University's Satit Bilingual School Builds Fastest Campus Network in Thailand with Solutions from Cisco Systems and Datacraft

BANGKOK, Thailand, June 18, 2004 - Rangsit University's Satit Bilingual School has built the fastest university campus network in Thailand with solutions from Cisco Systems® and Datacraft. The high-speed gigabit-speed network will help Satit to deliver new, advanced, on-line services to its staff and students, which supports the Thai Information Communications Technology (ICT) Ministry's initiative to increase the use of information technology (IT) in schools nationwide.

Satit Bilingual School of Rangsit University provides bilingual courses for kindergarten, primary and secondary education to both Thais and foreign students. The school is at the forefront of schools in Thailand in utilising IT for its teaching and learning processes, communications and management.

"Information technology is a vital tool for education today. That's why we are equipping our school with the most advanced ICT solutions with an aim to upgrade our educational capabilities and keep pace with technological changes around the world. One of our initiatives is to enable our students and staff to take advantage of technological innovations in the learning process, and the Gigabit Campus Network will help us achieve that goal," said Dr. Arthit Ourairat, chairman of Satit Bilingual School of Rangsit University.

Deployed by Datacraft Thailand, Satit's Gigabit Campus Network is comprised of Cisco® Catalyst® switches, Cisco Aironet® wireless local-area-network (LAN) equipment, Cisco PIX® firewalls, Cisco routers and Cisco remote-access equipment. The advanced network will help enable students, teachers and administrative staff of the school to derive the most benefits from Internet, e-mail and e-learning applications with high-speed and secure connection.

Asawin Kangvolkij, managing director, Cisco Systems Thailand, said Satit's Gigabit Campus Network will help enable the school to use ICT in more compelling ways. "Educational institutions around the world have embraced ICT to enhance the learning process, for example delivering seminars in the form of videos online, and enabling wireless access anywhere on the campus. Satit will now be in a position to deliver those types of services to its staff and students," he said.

Somchart Kanha, general manager, Datacraft Thailand, added that the Gigabit Campus Network from Cisco would enhance IT applications and communications within the school's campus. With this high-speed network, Satit Bilingual School of Rangsit University will become a model for how IT is used in schools in Thailand. This project is a demonstration of how to develop education with advanced technology.
