JAKARTA, Indonesia - April 1, 2004 - Jakarta International School (JIS), an independent school for expatriates in Jakarta, has taken a major step to improving its technological infrastructure. The school has completed the deployment of advanced IP telephony and security solutions from Cisco Systems®, which complements the school's existing Cisco® powered local and wide area networks.
Built on Cisco AVVID® (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data), the IP telephony and security solutions will help JIS' administrative and teaching staff to work more efficiently and improve customer service. Comprised of 300 Cisco IP phones, Cisco Call Manager call processing, Cisco Security Agent (CSA) and CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution, the enhancements will also translate to lower operational costs for JIS. The cost savings are expected to come from lower phone tariffs and reduced network maintenance costs by eliminating the traditional phone system. JIS' telephone calls will now be carried over the Cisco AVVID-enabled IP network which already handles the school's data traffic.
"The philosophy of JIS is to provide a challenging curriculum in an international environment promoting academic excellence. In order to do this, we have to ensure that our technology infrastructure is powerful enough to provide our staff with the tools they require to be successful. It is not enough today to be good, we have to be world-class. The Cisco end-to-end network enhanced with IP Telephony and Security solutions provides us with a strong foundation on which our staff can excel. With this platform, anything is possible now, including video conferencing and online teaching from virtually anywhere on campus or in the city," said Jonathan Kine, director of information technology, JIS.
JIS provides education from elementary to high school levels with a diverse curriculum that prepares its secondary students for college or university. JIS' high school level students also have the option of sitting through the Cisco Networking Academy Program curriculum, which teaches them how to plan, build and maintain computer networks. The Program also provides the students with the option of sitting for and qualifying for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, an industry qualification widely respected in the networking industry. JIS has been an accredited Cisco Networking Academy since 1999.
"Advanced networking technologies such as IP telephony and security are the next frontier in IT. Organizations of all sizes around the world are benefiting from such technologies and JIS will enjoy the same experience. The school has shown that they are serious about education excellence with this significant enhancement to their technology infrastructure. On our end, Cisco Systems, together with our systems integrators will work hard to ensure that JIS gets the most out of their network," said Irfan Setiaputra, managing director, Indonesia, Cisco Systems.
