COPENHAGEN, Denmark, May 6, 2002 - Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced that Danske Bank, Denmark's leading financial institution and one of the most advanced e-businesses in Europe, has deployed Cisco's newly-launched CSS 11506 content switches, in order to improve the flexibility and reliability of its internal network.
Danske Bank has built one of Europe's largest Internet banking operations, and is committed to web-enabling its entire business. The deployment of Cisco's new CSS 11506 content switches will help the business improve load-balancing across its internal Windows hosts, allowing it to seamlessly roll out centralised systems and applications to an estimated 20,000 computer terminals without experiencing traffic problems across its network.
"We have long recognized the value of content networking and were even involved in beta testing the CSS 11506. We believe this technology can play a significant role in providing competitive advantage and, from the start, have been keen to use it to facilitate the administration of e-business initiatives," said Tom Sxderholm, vice president at Danske Bank.
Danske Bank is one of the first customers worldwide for the Cisco CSS 11506 content switch, part of the CSS 11500 Series officially launched this month. The equipment will be used alongside the bank's existing data networking infrastructure, which is based on campus networks comprising Cisco Catalyst. 6500 and 3500 Series switches, linked via 155 megabit-per-second STM-1 lines which rely on Cisco 7500 Series Internet Routers.
Phil Dean, Marketing Manager, Security and Content Networking at Cisco EMEA, said: "The Cisco CSS 11506 modular content switching platform is based on a new distributed processing architecture that offers significantly increased performance per rack unit, the industry's only rules-based user session recovery services, and modularly-scalable integrated Secure Socket Layer acceleration that dramatically speeds secure Web transactions. The innovative architecture of the Cisco CSS 11506 represents a new industry standard for improving security, availability and scalability of e-business sites and systems, distributed data center configurations, and dedicated hosting environments, while supporting new services in a reduced form factor for added management simplicity. Further, this new architecture offers affordable entry-level performance with 'pay as you grow' performance scalability that is critical to meeting today's return-on-investment requirements."
