Saigon Center of Techniques and Technology to Award Cisco Networking Academy Scholarships to Top Le Hong Phong Students

HANOI, Vietnam -- 5 April 2001 -- Saigon Center of Techniques and Technology (SaigonCTT), the first Cisco Regional Networking Academy in Vietnam, today announced scholarships worth US$6,000 each to the top students from Le Hong Phong high school in Ho Chi Minh city who will go through the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum.

The scholarship is aimed at accelerating the pace of interest among the next generation of Vietnamese in next-generation topics such as Internet and networking based on a state-of-the-art e-learning model.

The Networking Academy program is a comprehensive 8-semester/560 hour course that trains students and in-transition workers to design, build and maintain computer networks. Students are also prepared for industry standard certifications including the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNATM), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNPTM), and NetPus+ certification.

After passing their exams in Math and English, six students from Le Hong Phong will attend the Cisco Networking Academy program in SaigonCTT. The educational content, testing, and student performance will be accessible via the Internet.

"We'd like to bring advanced technology education to Vietnam and increase the opportunities for students to get more exposure to modern communications equipment. This program is part of Cisco's Work-Based- Learning Initiative, which will enhance their practical studies in class and encourage innovations in networking technology. Moreover, we chose Le Hong Phong high school because it is one of the best schools in the city," said Vuong Manh Son, Director of SaigonCTT.

"SaigonCTT's sponsorships not only expresses its interest and willingness to educate talented person but also meets the training demands of our school. I hope this program will be expanded to other schools so that more students will have the opportunity to access modern technology," said Mr. Dang Thanh Chau, the Principle of Le Hong Phong professional high school.

The Saigon Center of Techniques and Technology (SaigonCTT), is an organization of science and technology specializing in Mathematics, Informatics, Telecommunications including: Basic research and application, technicians training and technology transfer which is based in Saigon Software Park- S.S.P 123 Truong Dinh, District 3, Ho Chi Minh city.
