Cisco Networking Academy Program Marks A New Milestone in Networking Education in Asia

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- 18 December 2000 -- Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the internet, jointly with Taiwan's National Chaio Tung University, today announced the establishment of the first Cisco Academy Training Center (CATC) in North Asia. In addition, five prestigious universities in Taiwan have newly joined the Cisco Networking Academy Program.

Cisco has also received support from NCR which becomes the first corporate sponsor of the Networking Academy in the region.

Under the Networking Academy Program, as the CATC in North Asia, Chiao Tung University will be responsible for managing and supporting the Regional Academies (RAs) in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea.

In addition, five prestigious universities in Taiwan have agreed to join the Networking Academy as RAs, namely, National Cheng Kung University, National Chung Cheng University, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Taiwan Normal University and Tamkang University. Cisco will also provide these universities with professional instructor training and lab equipment.

"The Cisco Networking Academy Program was established in the U.S. in 1997 and extended to Taiwan in 1998. We are very pleased to see such a fast development of this program and today we have eleven RAs and 35 LAs in Taiwan. The establishment of the first CATC in North Asia with Chiao Tung University further demonstrates our effort in networking education in Taiwan. This also marks a significant milestone of the development of the program in the region."

"The curriculum of the Cisco Networking Academy program focuses on designing, deploying and maintaining computer networks and provides students with the skill sets required for the Internet economy in the 21st century. We are proud to be the first CATC in North Asia and we will strive for nurturing and increasing the skills of networking professionals in Taiwan.. We also look forward to exchanging our technological knowledge with other North Asian countries through this meaningful education project."

In addition, NCR has become the first corporate sponsor of Networking Academy graduates. NCR will offer 32 Graduate Program opportunities to Networking Academy students across the Asia Pacific region, of which 6 will be offered in Greater China. The NCR Graduate Program will sponsor the selected graduates to pursue CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification. Candidates must have passed the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) exam that the first four semesters of the Networking Academy prepares them for.
