Vancouver, British Columbia -- September 20, 1999 -- TELOS Technology Inc. announced today that the company has become a member of the Cisco Voice Application Partner (CVAP) program and will port their entire family of Mobile Switching Center (MSC) and fixed wireless software products to operate on Cisco's family of switching platforms. Initially, TELOS will offer their Sonata series of solutions including IS-136, CDMA and GSM to their customers based on the Cisco VCO/4K open programmable switch.
"Moving to Cisco's VCO/4K switch enables us to double the capacity of our Sonata product family to better serve today's market needs," stated Jack Mar, President of TELOS. "In addition, teaming with Cisco means we've got the capability to evolve our products for next generation IP-based networks."
Next generation wireless networks - commonly referred to as "3G" - provide true convergence between IP-based networks and traditional circuit-switched networks. Increased subscriber bandwidth means that carriers can transport voice, data and SS7 signaling traffic through IP, as well as through traditional T1/E1 circuits. By utilizing IP technologies, carriers can dramatically decrease communications costs while providing a broader range of services.
"TELOS shares our vision for next generation wireless IP networks," said Jon Shantz, Vice President of Cisco's Fixed and Mobile Wireless Business Unit. "They bring an impressive set of wireless software products and considerable expertise to our CVAP program." The CVAP program is designed to accelerate the development of innovative, new services for wireline, wireless and new world IP networks.
TELOS supports multiple wireless protocols including AMPS, IS-136, CDMA, GSM 900, 1800, 1900 together with wireline applications including tandem switching to give carriers in small-to-medium-sized markets unique competitive advantages. "This type of technology leap and demonstrated flexibility of design is what we do best at TELOS," continued Mar. "As carriers address their needs of converging services including wireline, wireless and IP networks, we intend to deliver a product utilizing the best technologies offered in the industry today."
