SAN JOSE, Calif. -- June 30, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announcedthat Kaiser Permanente, the world's largest HMO, has selected Cisco as itsstrategic supplier for network management, security and infrastructuresolutions. The network is expected to streamline the integration of theservice delivery process, optimizing cost-effective communications acrossKaiser facilities nationwide. Utilizing network services enabled by Cisco IOS. software, Kaiser will offer innovative applications such as telemedicine and teleradiology.
Advanced health information systems and electronic medical records are keytools for Kaiser's future. These networked applications require seamlessintegration and reliability offered today by Cisco solutions. A majorhealth management objective is to render uniform access to consolidatedpatient information, improving the quality and reducing costs associatedwith providing health care. The inherent flexibility provided by a Ciscoinfrastructure allows for the optimal delivery of the networked application.
Equipment is expected to include a broad range of Catalyst. 5000/5500enterprise LAN switches, Catalyst 2900 series LAN switches, Cisco 7000family routers, and Cisco network management tools including Netsys and the PIX Firewall.
Kaiser is partnering with Cisco to deliver and deploy advanced telemedicinesolutions that improve and expand health care delivery while efficientlymanaging the cost of that delivery.
