SAN JOSE, Calif. -- April 20, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced relationships with two companies in support of the recently announced CiscoAssure Policy Networking initiative. Cisco is licensing technology from American Internet Corporation (AIC) and has acquired the policy-server expertise of Devsoft Corporation. These relationships add momentum to the CiscoAssure initiative which allows the assignment of policies based on application profiles, user group, role or personal names.

"Cisco has declared CiscoAssure a strategic, near-term goal to meeting its customers' business needs," said Jim Metzler, principal analyst of The Metzler Group of Boston, Massachusetts. "This announcement furthers Cisco's core competence in delivering a policy networking solution with an end-to-end focus that truly leverages intelligent network infrastructures to protect mission-critical applications."

Cisco, in an exclusive technology licensing and development agreement with American Internet Corporation, will use AIC's technology to enhance IP address management, dynamic naming and addressing, and class-based and directory services. This technology will be integrated with Cisco's user registration and directory solutions for enterprises, cable networks and service providers. During the initial phase of this agreement, Cisco will ship an enhanced release of AIC's Network Registrar as part of its CiscoAssure Policy Networking roadmap.

"We are pleased to be selected by Cisco, as our exclusive networking partner, for the distribution and development of core technologies for policy networking based on our Network Registrar technology," said Bob Brennan, chief executive officer and president of AIC, based in Bedford, Massachusetts. "American Internet's Network Registrar has been recognized by the industry as a leader in DNS/DHCP technology for enterprise and cable-industry customers, and this agreement with Cisco further validates our leadership."

Over the past two years, Cisco has co-developed user registration, administration and tracking components for policy networking in Cisco's enterprise products with Devsoft of Fremont, Calif. Devsoft's extensive experience developing policy control software is being integrated into Cisco's policy networking team to accelerate the delivery of end-to-end policy networking solutions.

CiscoAssure Policy Networking delivers end-to-end application-aware networks that ensure the availability, performance and security of mission-critical business applications. CiscoAssure leverages intelligent features found in Cisco IOS® software and Cisco network devices with registration and directory services, network-based application recognition and policy activation components distributed throughout enterprise networks.
