LAS VEGAS, NAB  – Adoption of cloud and IP technology in the media industry continues to accelerate rapidly, as companies meet the challenges associated with delivering any-screen digital experiences, including live OTT streaming video, augmented and virtual reality, 4K resolution and more.

By 2020, Cisco expects 64 percent of all cloud data center traffic to be video and storage.[1] With more than eight billion connected video devices expected by 2020, every screen will become a TV playing video, driving 82% of global IP traffic.[2]

To address these trends, Cisco introduced its Cisco® Media Blueprint, a set of IP-based infrastructure and software solutions that accelerate the creation, delivery and monetization of immersive experiences.

One year later, Cisco has over 100 global media customers, ranging from media companies, content and service providers, to broadcasters and entertainment companies, which have aligned with Cisco’s strategy for media transformation. New Cisco Media Blueprint customers - including Canal+ and others are realizing the benefits of an open, cloud-based and IP-centric architecture to manage intense demands on their video production and distribution networks.

Cisco Media Blueprint Solutions are helping customers drive key initiatives, including:

  • Move live media production to IP while preserving existing workflows
  • Accelerate innovation and agility with a cloud-based media production environment
  • Migrate satellite distribution to an all IP infrastructure
  • Adopt holistic approaches to securing infrastructure and content from cyber threats and online piracy

“IP is the path to the future for the media industry,” said Dave Ward, CTO of Engineering and chief architect, Cisco. “Cisco is unique in its approach to helping content providers and media and entertainment companies navigate the transition to cloud and IP technology. We offer the industry’s most comprehensive approach to enable our customers to gain the agility, simplicity and security they need to succeed in today’s dynamic media environments.”

Cisco is working with leading software providers, system integrators and technology ecosystem partners to ensure that joint customers navigate the transition to cloud and IP with confidence. Cisco is promoting news and activities with several partners this week at NAB, including Intel, Grass Valley, Lawo, Presidio, Scality and Swiftstack.

Cisco is building the simplified, automated and virtualized network platform of the future based on industry-leading software, systems, silicon and services. This enables service providers, media and web companies worldwide to reduce costs, speed time-to-market, secure their networks and sustain profitable growth.
