SAN JOSE, Calif. – December 7, 2016 – Cisco announces today, Mediacom Communications, the nations fifth largest cable television company has deployed the Cisco cBR-8 next-generation converged cable access platform (CCAP) within its 22 state network footprint.
With support from the Cisco cBR-8, Mediacom will fully upgrade its network infrastructure to the latest DOCSIS 3.1. Virtually all of the 3 million homes and businesses within the 1,500 communities that Mediacom serves will benefit from a gigabit-capable broadband network by the end of 2016.
This highly resilient platform will help enable Mediacom to significantly reduce TCO while enabling the company to benefit from greater flexibility and bandwidth to their network. With this deployment, Mediacom’s network upgrades will result in significant speed boost for the majority of the company’s existing Internet plans.
“Our transition to next-generation multi-gig capabilities will significantly enhance our customers experiences,” said JR Walden, Mediacom’s Chief Technology Officer. “As the first major cable operator to fully deploy DOCSIS 3.1, we are pleased to have worked with Cisco to seamlessly migrate our network infrastructure.”
“Mediacom is deploying a highly functional broadband architecture with enormous bandwidth potential to support the growth in online and streaming video, and new app-driven experiences,” said Sean Welch, vice president of Cable Access BU, Cisco. “With this incredibly efficient platform, they will be able to greatly reduce their operating costs and grow their subscriber value.”
