AMSTERDAM, IBC 2016, September 9, 2016 – Digitization is creating new business opportunities and security challenges for video operators including service providers, and media and entertainment companies.
Premium, high-valued content is at the heart of the video industry. Protecting that content, and the revenue associated with it, is top priority for all video operators.
With the transition to more IP and cloud technology, the potential number of attacks and threats on video operator networks is growing. To protect against current and future threats in this environment, video operators need to adopt a holistic approach to achieve robust security.
At IBC 2016, Cisco is introducing Cisco® Security for Video, a comprehensive approach to security for IP and cloud-based video production and delivery. It is built on the company’s years of expertise and market leading position in both video content security and data center security. Highlights include:
- VideoGuard® Everywhere: Provides conditional access and multi-DRM based protection with advanced security and business rule enforcement capabilities. It can be deployed and managed flexibly from the cloud, and simplifies integration with open APIs.
- Streaming Piracy Prevention: A new, unique solution that uses automated tools and methods to identify, verify and eliminate online streaming piracy in real time.
- Infrastructure Security: Multi-layered security solutions that combine best of breed technology to deliver an architectural approach.
The solutions work together to protect video content, broadcast infrastructure, and critical business systems from advanced cyber threats before, during and after an attack, reducing time to detect and increasing the effectiveness of the overall security posture.
These solutions are being implemented by global service provider, media and entertainment customers, including: Eastlink, Canada’s largest family owned and operated telecommunications company; LeCloud, the cloud computing and data processing subsidiary of LeEco, one of the largest online video companies in China; Sky, Europe’s leading entertainment company with more than 21 million customers; Sony Pictures Networks India, which handles the diversified interests of Sony Pictures in India; and others.
“We partnered closely with Cisco on the launch of Eastlink Stream,” said Deborah Shaffner, President, Eastlink. “Content and video service security was a top priority for us from the start. Integrating Cisco’s VideoGuard Everywhere encryption and Infinite Video cloud platform allows us to offer a modern and innovative entertainment experience at the touch of an app while protecting our video delivery to a variety of devices.”
“Our vision is to connect everything that matters to modern consumers,” said Yazhou Wu, CEO of LeCloud. “We are committed to deepening our collaboration with Cisco in many areas, including building a DRM cloud platform to provide best-in-class DRM cloud services across all media formats and devices. We are creating and providing a global cloud ecosystem centered on life, business and society, and are building a vertically integrated Eco-as-a-Service (EaaS) cloud model, delivering new values based on industry chain reorganization.”
“Sky is committed to delivering secure, personalized, multiscreen and Ultra HD experiences to subscribers across our footprint,” said Alun Webber, chief product officer, Sky. “We needed a technology partner who could secure the entire video platform for live TV in 4K, VoD, streaming video to set-top boxes and other devices, and content sharing between platforms. Cisco delivered with its VideoGuard Everywhere solution.”
“Our content is our most valuable asset,” said Mr. NP Singh, CEO, Sony Pictures Networks. “Securing that content from piracy and today’s sophisticated hackers is a top priority for us. Our work with Cisco to deploy an advanced security solution across our network and content distribution platforms will help us protect our premium content for subscribers.”
“Cisco Security for Video offers a best-of-breed approach that comes at a critical time when video services and infrastructure are increasingly open and cloud-based,” said Conrad Clemson, senior vice president, general manager, Service Provider Video Software, Cisco. “Our Operational Security team is constantly tracking new forms of video piracy, and the Cisco Talos team is stopping 20 billion attacks per day on our customers’ networks. That in itself is a testament to the growing importance of holistic security for the video industry.”
Cisco is architecting the network of the future through virtualization, automation, simplification and programmability. Cisco’s leading position globally in cloud, networking, video, mobility and security enables service providers, media and web companies worldwide to reduce costs, speed time-to-market, secure their networks and achieve profitable growth.
