Benny Mikkelsen is Senior Vice President and General Manager for Cisco’s Coherent Products and Components (Acacia) team. In this role, he leads a world-class organization of engineers developing high-speed, optical interconnect technologies that allow webscale companies, service providers and data center operators to meet the fast-growing consumer demand for data.
In 2009, Benny co-founded Acacia Communications, an early pioneer in coherent optics leveraging silicon photonics, serving as Chief Technology Officer. In March 2021, Acacia was acquired by Cisco reinforcing Cisco’s commitment to optics as a building block that will enhance Cisco’s ‘Internet for the Future’ strategy with world class coherent optical solutions.
Benny brings to Cisco extensive expertise and experience in optical transmission and technologies. Previously, Benny co-founded and served as the Vice President of Technology at Mintera and has held various engineering positions with Bell Laboratories, a research and scientific development company, now a part of Nokia. Benny has published more than 200 papers and conference contributions in letters, journals, and conferences. Benny holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Denmark.
