Cisco and non-profit organization Global Citizen are working together again to present the 2019 Global Citizen Festival in New York City. This year, performing artists include Queen and Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, OneRepublic, and H.E.R. Global Citizen is using this star-studded lineup of musicians and entertainers to motivate people to have a positive impact on the world.  But this is more than simply a festival. It’s a social movement encouraging people to tweet, email, or share their ideas online about important issues like education, citizenship, sanitation, and more.

Both Global Citizen and Cisco align to the United Nation’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development–goals like eliminating poverty and creating affordable and clean energy—as a blueprint to making the world more sustainable in the future. Global Citizen’s and Cisco’s partnership grew even stronger this year with a new commitment. In June, Global Citizen and Cisco announced a new, three-year partnership where Cisco is committing funding and technology to positively impact communities, governments and businesses. Cisco is also using its extensive portfolio of networking, security, and collaboration to address social and economic challenges. 

This commitment is just the latest in the two organizations’ relationship. In December 2018, Cisco joined with the Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa to announce a commitment to preparing 10 million people for IT jobs in the next five years. Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins joined the festival stage with Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad) student Soso Luningo and singer Usher to make the statement. NetAcad is Cisco’s education platform where students can take classes online and in-person on everything from networking, security, Internet of Things, and more. By skilling and re-skilling students through NetAcad, Cisco can help the future of tech by equipping a new workforce.

Cisco was also present at the 2018 Global Citizen Festival in New York City, where Cisco provided the Wi-Fi at VIP areas of the event. The NetAcad Dream Team—members of Networking Academy who are chosen to get hands-on networking experience at events—were on-site in NYC setting up wireless connectivity. This group of students ran miles of cable to various Cisco and Meraki access points, helping attendees connect while also gaining crucial networking knowledge.
