MELBOURNE, Australia — November 5, 2012 — The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) is set to lead the field in technology innovation when it deploys the Cisco Connected Stadium Wi-Fi Solution to provide Flemington members and racegoers with the latest in Wi-Fi technology. As the first racecourse in the world to deploy Connected Sports Solutions, the VRC is poised to make Flemington the most technology-advanced racecourse in the world.
Flemington will be the first racecourse in the world to implement the technology, which will be operational before the 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival, allowing racegoers to quickly and easily gain high-speed, concurrent Wi-Fi Internet access from their mobile and smart phones as the action at the track unfolds. As well as keeping up with social media, members and guests will also have access to numerous specially designed services via their mobiles, including the ability to place bets, purchase food and beverages and watch the races in high definition (HD) video.
Encouraging fans to use the Cisco Connected Stadium Wi-Fi network for Internet connectivity will also help free up mobile networks, allowing fans to text and call throughout race day, something that can be challenging during major race meetings.
Cisco StadiumVision will provide an interactive on-course experience for racegoers with HD displays and video walls throughout the venue with its capability to deliver digital content with multiple camera angles of the races, race day information and special promotions. The highly customisable solution will enable the VRC to provide an unparalleled race experience to patrons by providing directional seat information upon arrival, real-time traffic and weather updates and exclusive video content for its premium members. The technology will offer sponsors and advertisers new opportunities to engage patrons with dynamic and highly targeted content and promotions.
“Being connected is now a crucial part of daily life and with the rapid growth of social media the VRC wants to be at the forefront of providing racegoers with access to their mobile devices on-course,” said VRC Executive General Manager Corporate, Finance and Strategic Initiatives Simon Love.
“The Victoria Racing Club’s implementation of Cisco Connected Sports Solution is a game changer that will see ubiquitous connectivity extended throughout Flemington, giving our visitors and patrons an enriched live racing experience unlike any other in the world.”
“Reliable, real-time Wi-Fi access on our busiest race days will not only help visitors interact and share their race experiences with friends and families via social media, text and video during the event; it also allows us to expand the ways in which our guests can engage with the venue on a more personalised level - an attractive proposition for our sponsors,” said Mr Love.
“I am very proud of our collaboration with the Victoria Racing Club to transform the venue and create a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience for members and patrons. Cisco is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the VRC’s business objectives, while also developing leading multi-media solutions such as StadiumVision,” said Richard Kitts, Vice President of Cisco Australia and New Zealand.
The Connected Sports solution provides the VRC with a single, highly scalable and secure platform for innovation and growth as well as the necessary flexibility to adapt to changing market needs for years to come.
By implementing Cisco Connected Stadium, the VRC joins Real Madrid C.F.’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, New Zealand’s Eden Park, London’s Wembley Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys’ Stadium and numerous others who are focused on creating truly remarkable and unforgettable experiences for fans through cutting-edge technology that delivers real business results.
