BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, January 24, 2012 - Banco Supervielle has implemented a new Data Center to help it take a next step: virtualization. This project is part of the bank's strategy to consolidate its business in a single corporate building that houses the data center and a unified network.
The new data center's Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS™) will allow the bank to extend the power of virtualization, unifying servers, the network and storage in a single system and reducing significantly the cost and complexity of the IT infrastructure.
The data center facilitates operations and helps enable mission-critical information to be administered within the bank, maximizing resources and providing agility to the business while its customers can access their accounts and financial services anytime and anywhere.
Highlights
- During the merger of its constituent banks, Banco Supervielle decided to gather the operations of nine buildings into one and to consolidate the technological infrastructure in one data center.
- It took four months to build the data center, a month and a half to move it, and less than a month to implement, configure and execute the Cisco UCS and VMware solutions. Previously, much more time and money would have been needed to implement a new data center.
The new data center with 270 square meters is capable of housing 60 racks, a communications room, a monitoring system and the bank's entire IT infrastructure. In addition, it is equipped with Cisco Nexus® 5000 and Nexus 2000 Switches. Apart from the networking infrastructure, the bank implemented Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers, bringing computing, networks, storage and virtualization together in a cohesive system designed to reduce total property costs and to integrate a unified fabric input and output system.
- Logicalis was the Cisco Gold Certified Partner in charge of the implementation.
Next Step: Virtualization
Today the bank has 34 virtual servers, and the aim is to scale up to 150 virtual servers. With the optimization of the data center performance, it will be easier to manage the business and make it more efficient.
With this implementation the bank will also be able to increase scalability, improve performance and reduce the operating cost in virtual environments. Security measures, policy enforcement and monitoring capabilities are now extended to the virtualized environment to support changes in business procedures and to meet future IT requirements.
