Cisco and Slumberland Inc. to Showcase Use of Cisco Data Center Solutions for Retail Industry

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Oct. 8, 2010 – On Oct. 13, Cisco will host a live Internet TV broadcast and Q&A session featuring Slumberland, a furniture retailer that operates 118 stores in 11 states. To enable cost-efficient growth, Slumberland has selected the Cisco Unified Computing System™ as a highly available and scalable platform for the company's new data center.

Hosted by Cisco executives, the show will feature the following special guests:

  • Jamie Page, chief information officer at Slumberland, will discuss the changing information technology requirements of retailers and the next-generation data center architectures needed to house and manage point-of-sale and operational data. Page will provide insight into how the IT department at Slumberland Inc. has deployed the Cisco Unified Computing System to support enterprise applications and will address how IT management can integrate new data center technologies to provide valuable return for retail organizations in a challenging economic environment.  Page will explain how Slumberland reduced per-server management costs from $1,575 to $80 with the help of the Cisco Unified Computing System.
  • Seth Mitchell, infrastructure team manager at Slumberland Inc., will detail how Slumberland planned and deployed a data center with scalability, high availability and the ability to adapt to business needs while providing cost savings to the company. Mitchell will address his organization's use of Cisco data center technologies, including the Cisco Unified Computing System and Cisco MDS Storage solutions, as well as their integration with Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, Microsoft SQL Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and planned deployment with Oracle RAC 10G.
