Atlanta, Georgia – August 31, 2009 – Orion Health, Inc. and Cisco today announced the Rhapsody Connect AXP, a new solution to address current challenges in public health reporting and to improve the early detection, tracking and rapid response to possible disease outbreaks such as seasonal or H1N1 flu. The solution integrates the Cisco Application Extension Platform (AXP), Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs) and the Orion HealthTM Rhapsody® Connect platform to provide a pre-configured and highly secure public health reporting solution. The companies unveiled the joint solution, Rhapsody® Connect AXP, to audiences at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Public Health Information Network PHIN Conference 2009, today in Atlanta, GA.

Currently healthcare organizations are encumbered with antiquated or manual public health reporting processes and systems.  These processes and systems increase the costs of public health reporting, lower overall care productivity and impact the quality of care. The Rhapsody Connect AXP solution automates public health reporting by enabling the highly secure and efficient interchange of medical data between organizations.  Healthcare providers will utilize standards based transactions from the solution to quickly and accurately transmit and share data between public health agencies, partners, and healthcare information exchanges for improved disease monitoring and response.

Kathy English, director of Cisco Global Healthcare Solutions, notes the Rhapsody solution meets the demands for providers to both transmit reports as well as receive public health notifications in a simple and cost-effective manner.  The Rhapsody Connect AXP utilizes global industry software and hardware open standards to ensure its integration into health information systems, remarked English

Paul Viskovich, Orion Health President of North America and EMEA, anticipates that smaller sites and remote clinics may find this version of Rhapsody particularly useful.

"Rhapsody Connect AXP helps health facilities of any size to contribute to the national preparedness effort by streamlining and automating the process for data exchange using PHIN standards to report to the CDC," continued Mr. Viskovich.

Rhapsody Connect AXP is designed to be deployed with minimal IT resources within a hospital's or clinic's existing reporting system. Cisco Integrated Services Routers with Cisco Application Extension Platform provide a robust and highly secure platform for transmitting and receiving healthcare data.
Rhapsody Connect AXP formats the data and routes it within the hospital or clinic, and between organizations and across regions.  This includes the Centers for Disease Control for data sharing and analysis, as well as the detection of patterns of common disease symptoms.

Rhapsody Connect AXP uses standards-based technology to integrate data within a facility and between external partners taking advantage of existing IT investments and systems. Currently the company helps facilities and healthcare communities that connect 35 million patients with tens of thousands of active users.
