HSBC Mexico Deploys Cisco Unified Communications Solution

Cisco Unified Communications deployments in Latin America increased 300% in the last two years

MEXICO CITY, Mexico, April 24, 2008 - Cisco today announced that HSBC Mexico has deployed a Cisco® Unified Communications solution that will help the financial institution lower costs by converging voice, data and video onto one network. This will also enable the bank provide better services to its customers and employees.

HSBC Mexico implemented an IP network which supports 9,800 Cisco Unified IP Phones and 500 desktop video cameras using the Cisco Unified Video Advantage solution. This converged network connects 279 branches and the HSBC Tower in Mexico City, enabling voice, data and video transmission between the bank's nine main buildings.

In addition to HSBC Mexico, Cisco Unified Communications is currently deployed in the HSBC offices in Argentina, Paraguay and Peru. Cisco and HSBC are working together to extend the benefits of Cisco's Unified Communications to additional Latin American countries.

This deployment represents a significant milestone for Cisco, contributing to the more than 400,000 Cisco workspaces in the Latin American region. Since 2005, Cisco has experienced a 300 percent growth in IP phone sales in Latin America, indicating an accelerated adoption of Cisco Unified Communications by companies of all sizes in this region.

Cisco's Unified Communications solution supports the ability for users to work from any of the HSBC offices where the solution has been implemented, using any available telephone and receiving calls as though they were at their regular office location. Additionally, users can receive and make calls from anywhere, whether at work, home, an airport or a hotel, using Cisco Unified IP Communicator, software that emulates the functions of a physical IP phone on a desktop computer.
