SAN JOSE, Calif., October 20, 2006 - Cisco Systems®, Inc. announced today that The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado will work with Cisco Gold Certified Channel partner, Global Technology Resources Inc. (GTRI), to design and implement a resilient Cisco Unified Communications solution for its new facility.
With more than 600 experienced clinicians, specialists and researchers representing the full spectrum of pediatric care, Children's is home to many nationally and internationally recognized medical and research programs and consistently ranks among the nation's finest pediatric hospitals. Children's provides complete pediatric care at its main campus and through a network of care that includes 11 Children's Care Centers and more than 400 outreach clinics.
This new Unified Communications initiative will support The Children's Hospital's expansion into a new 10-story 1.44-million-square-foot facility in Aurora, Colorado, scheduled to open in the fall of 2007, and will also serve to connect 13 network locations around Denver. The integrated pediatric care network has been designed to optimize healthcare delivery based on recommended best practices for real-time collaboration, resiliency, security, responsiveness, and connectivity.
The Children's Hospital was looking to upgrade its existing communications infrastructure while outfitting its newest facility with a single communications architecture capable of supporting the converged delivery of data, voice, and video. It selected a number of products from the Cisco Unified Communications portfolio, as well as from Cisco's security, wireless, networking, and business transformation services portfolios to help improve its business and operational efficiencies.
"As one of the leading children's hospitals in the country, we continuously evaluate our IT capabilities so that we can make the necessary investments to better serve our patients and the community," said Jim Turnbull, senior vice president and chief information officer of The Children's Hospital. "As we prepare to move into this new 10-story facility, we chose Cisco Systems because we wanted a solutions provider that not only understood our business and the healthcare industry, but also was a technology leader and had expertise at addressing the operational challenges healthcare organizations can face."
GTRI will design and deploy a Cisco solution that includes more than 5000 + Cisco IP phones, and more than 800 Cisco wireless access points which will increase the hospital's communication efficiency. The new Cisco network will include enterprise-wide wireless and centralized voicemail, conferencing, and other collaborative applications. These systems will boost operational efficiency to help improve interactions among patients, physicians, and employees.
"The Children's Hospital has taken a very innovative approach in its network architecture by building a communications capability for the future; one that will translate into a superior patient care and care giver efficiency," said, Greg Byles, vice president of business development, Global Technology Resources, Inc. "GTRI is honored to be involved in such a monumental project that will have such a significant effect on generations to come."
