PERTH, Australia - April 25, 2006 - Cisco Systems® today announced that Australia's largest high-speed asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL2+) provider, iiNet, has purchased Cisco core and edge Internet routing technology to allow it to transform its customer network to a national fibre backbone with multiple international links to the United States, New Zealand and Japan.

The iiNet network migration strategy is based on the deployment of Cisco 12416 and 10008 Routers. The routers, from Cisco's flagship 12000 Series, will operate at the core of iiNet's network and provide a rapid and highly reliable backbone for all Internet traffic and help iiNet meet the increasing demand for bandwidth from its 600,000 services across Australia and New Zealand.

Greg Bader, chief technology officer at iiNet, said: "We required high-end, carrier-grade networking equipment to manage the large volumes of data that we are distributing internationally and domestically. Critically, the solution needed the ability to scale easily and cope with the massive growth we are seeing now and forecasting for the future. Up against some strong competition, Cisco's rock-solid routers impressed the most. We felt confident we were investing in the future and would reap the benefits of Cisco's further innovations in the field."

The routers will join the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches currently running on the border of iiNet's network. The new segmented network design incorporates Cisco's 6500, 10000 and 12000 Series router products. It will significantly boost iiNet's ability to grow and enhance its overall network performance.

Delivering uncompromising routing performance and superior quality of service, Cisco's 12000 Series Routers take advantage of state-of-the-art silicon and intelligent software technologies. The Cisco 12416 Router is uniquely positioned for carriers to build the most sophisticated and competitive Internet Protocol (IP)/multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) service delivery infrastructure. The Cisco 10000 Series Routers are the industry's only edge routers that deliver consistent, high-performance features for carriers deploying IP/MPLS services to broadband and private line customers.

Peter Papaioannou, operations director of the Cisco Service Provider Team, said; "Cisco has long been iiNet's preferred networking supplier and we are delighted to have been selected for this important program. These routers will provide iiNet end users with more uptime, fewer unnecessary bottlenecks and faster packet processing, all critical for its customer satisfaction."
