Interop 2006 (Las Vegas) - May 1, 2006 - Cisco Systems® today announced that SAVVIS, Inc., a leading global provider of managed and outsourced IT services, has selected the Cisco® Catalyst® 6500 Series switches as the networking infrastructure for its next-generation Hosted Area Network architecture.

As part of this multi-phased, multi-year technology initiative, SAVVIS will replace many of its legacy switches in favor of Catalyst 6500s starting at its primary data center near its corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Mo. SAVVIS plans to upgrade other regional data centers onto Catalyst 6500-based networks over the next few years. SAVVIS'goals of this technology initiative include reducing capital and operational costs associated with managing its network, which, in turn, would allow it to better serve its customers and generate additional revenue opportunities.

"SAVVIS is a recognized leader in managed hosting services and our customers trust us to support their most demanding and mission-critical applications,"said Michael Tardif, vice president and general manager, Global Hosting Services, at SAVVIS. "After evaluating a number of choices, we selected the Catalyst 6500 because the product delivers the scalability, performance, and density we require in our data centers and the platform offers the promise for continued innovation. The result will be outstanding solutions for our customers and superior investment protection for our shareholders."

The Catalyst 6500 is the industry's most successful network switch in history. It is Cisco's strategic, flagship switching platform that delivers innovative secure, converged services from the data center to the networking core to the premises wiring closet. The Catalyst 6500 is a technology enabler of Cisco's Service Oriented Networking Architecture (SONA) architectural framework that guides customers' evolution to an Intelligent Information Network that will accelerate applications, business processes, and profitability.

"We are proud to expand our relationship with SAVVIS, one of the world's leading IT services providers with more than 5000 enterprise customers and 25 data centers in the US, Europe, and Asia," said John McCool, senior vice president and general manager of the Internet Switching Business Unit at Cisco. "The planned SAVVIS deployment confirms that customers today require networking infrastructure with the highest levels of embedded intelligence, security, and service options, especially in data center environments. The Catalyst 6500 leads the industry in delivering these key requirements and will allow large customers like SAVVIS to use their networks strategically today and well into the future."
