SAN JOSE, Calif., February 14, 2005 - Cisco Systems® today announced that Syniverse Technologies, a leading provider of mission-critical technology services to telecommunications companies worldwide, is deploying Cisco's IP Transfer Point (ITP) solution to its international mobile operator customers. Cisco's IP Transfer Point (ITP) is an innovative, highly reliable, cost-effective signaling solution for transferring Signaling System 7 (SS7) traffic in Internet Protocol (IP) environments.
"The Cisco ITP solution is a native IP device that scales effectively and efficiently in an IP-based network," said Paul Corrao, vice president of Network Operations at Syniverse Technologies. "IP-based core transport allows us to realize bandwidth efficiencies while providing flexible routing alternatives for our international customers."
Syniverse Technologies provides a range of services to operators around the world, including SS7 network infrastructure and services. Working closely with Cisco, Syniverse utilizes Cisco ITP solutions to increase its network capabilities. Syniverse adopted Cisco's ITP solution to provide international transport of signaling traffic in a reliable and cost effective environment. Additionally, Syniverse is evaluating the Cisco ITP to rapidly offer new and enhanced services.
Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP)
The Cisco ITP combines the functionality of a next generation STP and an IP router, including high-port density and support for IP routing protocols. This allows for the seamless transport of SS7 signaling traffic over IP networks. SS7-over-IP, using open Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Signaling Transport (SIGTRAN) protocols, reduces network operations costs while increasing network availability. By combining SIGTRAN protocols with Cisco ITP native IP routing functionality, the result is a seamless, SS7-over-IP solution that is highly reliable, flexible and easy to manage.
"As carriers bridge legacy SS7 networks to next generation networks and deploy IP enabled, next generation services to their customers, operators need solutions that will increase bandwidth efficiencies, while maintaining carrier-grade reliability," said Tony Jeffs, director of marketing, Mobile Wireless Group, Cisco Systems. "The Cisco ITP allows operators to bundle traditional SS7 routing with IP routing in a single platform."
