VON - Boston, Mass. -- Sept. 20, 2005 -- MCI, Inc. is expanding its managed IP communications offerings to the business market with the launch of Managed IP PBX, based on Cisco technology, including the Cisco CallManager product suite. MCI's Managed IP PBX solution is part of MCI's Cisco Powered Network-branded Advantage suite of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) offerings.
"Managed IP PBX, based on Cisco CallManager, overcomes the complexities of deploying and operating IP communications services and greatly simplifies system migration for our customers," said Nancy Gofus, MCI senior vice president of IP Services. "Cisco gives MCI and its customers the flexibility and scalability needed to quickly and efficiently deploy IP communications and begin reaping the benefits of an IP-enabled environment."
By converging voice and data networks onto a single IP-based network, MCI Managed IP PBX helps enable businesses to lower their total cost of network ownership by reducing expenditures associated with voice and data networking equipment and reducing maintenance and management costs. A converged network also enhances an organization's communications capabilities by facilitating employee mobility and providing a solid foundation for the deployment of sophisticated, feature-rich services and solutions.
MCI's Managed IP PBX offering is suited for enterprises with multiple locations and 200 or more phones. MCI's managed solution helps companies simplify the complexities of designing, migrating and managing an IP Telephony environment through an integrated suite of WAN-to- LAN services. MCI's team of technical experts deploys its Managed IP PBX service, ensuring logical and orderly implementation of services. MCI's integrated approach to network management provides fault identification and trouble resolution, helping to ensure high-quality, mission-critical voice applications run trouble-free.
"MCI's Managed IP PBX offering reflects both its dedication to its customers and its progressive culture," said Marylou Maco, vice president of U.S. Sales for Cisco. "By easing customer transition to IP communications, MCI is working to ensure maximum efficiency for customer networks today, while laying the groundwork for the additional delivery of rich-media services in the future."
The Cisco CallManager system, the software-based call-processing component of the integrated Cisco IP Communications (IPC) solution, extends enterprise telephony features and functions to packet telephony network devices such as IP phones, media processing devices, voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways and multimedia applications. Additional data, voice and video services such as unified messaging, multimedia conferencing, collaborative contact centers, and interactive multimedia response systems are available through Cisco CallManager. Other applications can integrate with the system through open telephony application program interface (API).
Cisco CallManager also includes a suite of integrated voice and video applications for performing voice and video conferencing and manual attendant console functions, eliminating the need for special-purpose voice-processing hardware. Supplementary and enhanced services such as hold, transfer, forward, conference, multiple-line appearances, automatic route selection, speed dial, last-number redial and other features extend to IP phones and gateways.
MCI's Advantage portfolio holds the Cisco Powered Network designation for Managed Business Voice. MCI customers know that service providers displaying the Cisco Powered Network mark are committed to using end-to-end Cisco equipment in their networks to help achieve operational excellence and enhance customer support services.
