Kuwait, January 10, 2005 - Cisco Systems® announced today that its Cisco® Connected Real Estate framework for shopping malls, based on Internet Protocol (IP) technology, is being used to deliver innovative services to shoppers and tenants alike in Al Kout Shopping Mall in Kuwait.

The Al Kout Shopping Mall, the state of the art waterfront shopping mall constructed and managed by Tamdeen Real Estate - one of the leading developers of shopping malls in Kuwait- has installed a secure voice, data and video over a converged intelligent Cisco infrastructure giving tenants services and resources through applications designed by partner Nevotek running on Cisco 7912, 7960 and 7970 color IP telephones. The Cisco infrastructure will soon be expanded to cover the rest of the "Madinat Fahaheel" development, namely Al Manshar, a commercial and residential complex, as well as a 200-suite 5-star Rotana Hotel by the fall of 2006, and "Internet access to the berth" with high speed access to each yacht berth within Al Kout Shopping Mall's exclusive marina.

Al Kout Shopping Mall is the first stage in the visionary new city development within Fahaheel city called "Madinat Fahaheel", which when completed in 2006 will be one of the leading real-life examples of how IP technology can enhance services to tenants, and create an exciting shopping experience for shoppers and city residents.

The technology installed in Al Kout Shopping Mall adopts a different approach to integration and connectivity than networks and infrastructures used today in most buildings and shopping malls. The Cisco Connected Real Estate frameworks for shopping malls provides a single connection for all building and IT systems, thus ensuring the convergence of these numerous networks into the open standard of IP to streamline processes. Whereas most buildings today, including shopping malls, are installed with multiple proprietary networks for building operations and management, as well as separate telecom and data communication networks. As a result these buildings are complex to operate, tend to have limited automated functionality; and run high installation costs, integration, and maintenance costs.

However, the Cisco single IP network for communications (voice, video and data) creates unprecedented efficiency and offers numerous opportunities for shopping malls owners, operators, tenants and consumers.

"We developed Al Kout Shopping Mall with the vision of reinventing the city of Fahaheel, ultimately enhance the lives of the city's residents by bringing world class shopping the latest in entertainment to their neighborhood, and cutting-edge services to tenants. In order to realize this vision, we needed to install state of the art connectivity and partner with a company that shares our vision. For that we turned to Cisco." said Ahmed Al Sarawi, Deputy General Manager for I.T. and Real Estate at Tamdeen Real Estate.

"With the high-level of competition among shopping malls in Kuwait, we looked to differentiate Al Kout Shopping Mall to both tenants and shoppers by offering high bandwidth internet access, applications over the IP telephones as well as email, fax and voice mail-unified messaging. Cisco provided us with an intelligent solution that brings new features such as advertisements through IP televisions, interactive kiosks and wireless connectivity to the shoppers."

Cisco Vice President for Middle East and Africa Marc de Simone said, "we are seeing enormous growth and opportunities in the Middle East region for innovative thought leaders like Tamdeen Real Estate in using an intelligent network to create differentiation and revenues."

He added, "Cisco Systems has already implemented similar infrastructures at leading international hotels, multi-tenant buildings or enterprises in Kuwait, the Gulf and around the world. With the "Cisco Connected Real Estate" framework in shopping malls, hotels, commercial office buildings and stadiums we have been able to deliver proven return on investment through a solid and flexible IP infrastructure."

Tamdeen Real Estate will have a week-long Grand Opening for Al Kout Shopping Mall on 9 Feb 2005 with water features, beach activities, promotions, fireworks and the chance to experience the advanced technology solutions.
