WDM & Optical Networking 2004, Cannes, and Stockholm, June 28, 2004 - Cisco Systems today announced that TeliaSonera is deploying an Ethernet, leased line and IP-VPN (Virtual Private Network) aggregation solution based on Cisco 7600 Series Routers in order to provide business customers with a broad range of IP and MPLS (Multi-protocol Label Switching) services.

In addition to helping TeliaSonera to aggregate rapidly increasing access traffic volumes on its network, the Cisco 7600-based solution is helping the pan-Nordic service provider to offer its Enterprise business customers access to next-generation IP/MPLS connectivity, alongside its existing access portfolio.

Underpinning these new service offerings is TeliaSonera's extension of its MPLS-based core network, which is already supported by the Cisco 12000 Series Router. The new architecture will help TeliaSonera to enhance its relationship with customers by delivering advanced MPLS Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN services.

"The Cisco Solution is helping us roll out Next Generation services to business customers requiring high-bandwidth connectivity and a full IP-Multiservice package," said Claes Nycander, SVP and Chief Network Officer at TeliaSonera. "In addition, the solution gives us the ability to fully adopt the cost benefits of the next generation of Ethernet based access methods. Going forward, the MPLS network now puts us in a good position to be able to effectively differentiate and streamline the full range of IP based applications/services to consumers and businesses as well as transporting PSTN traffic."

"TeliaSonera is experiencing a high demand for its services and has invested in appropriate technology to help ensure that this growth can continue," commented Geraint Anderson, VP service provider incumbents, Cisco Systems Europe, Middle East and Africa. "As well as being in a position to provide IP/MPLS services to large customers, TeliaSonera is also now well placed to complete its MPLS deployment which will help to reduce the costs of traditional voice transport."

In addition to business IP/MPLS services, Cisco 7600 Series Routers are also providing Broadband Aggregation for Ethernet based access both over DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and Fibre to the Home / Business, as well as helping provide the ability to support Triple Play services.

TeliaSonera has also deployed a wide range of Cisco technologies from Cisco 12000 Series Routers in its MPLS-enabled core, through to Cisco access routers and Catalyst® switches as customer premise equipment.
