KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 24, 2004 - Telekom Malaysia, the country's premier communications provider, is expanding its COINS (Corporate Information Superhighway) Services by enhancing the capacity and performance of its MPLS IP-VPN (Multi-protocol Label Switching Internet Protocol-Virtual Private Network) infrastructure using core technology solutions from Cisco Systems. The enhancement is part of Telekom Malaysia's objectives to meet the growing demands of data services, providing managed firewall services and to meet the future requirements of Malaysian companies.
Telekom Malaysia chose the new Cisco 12800 Series Router and the Cisco 10000 Series Router, which will cost-effectively increase the capacity of COINS several-fold and help deliver a robust portfolio of high-performance services.
Telekom Malaysia's fast-growing data services such as those offered in MPLS IP-VPN will form an important element of its strategy to expand its presence around the region.
"Service providers around the world acknowledge that data services such as MPLS IP-VPN, together with cellular services, are becoming key sources of services enhancement simply because their enterprise customers are demanding it. Cisco is helping our service provider customers build advanced, intelligent networks to accommodate the increased demand on a broad scale, while also helping reduce costs," said Johnson Khoo, managing director, Malaysia, Cisco Systems.
"By consolidating data services onto a single packet infrastructure, service providers can cost-effectively manage the network through simplified design and ease of management and maintenance. The scale of enhancement and lower cost of ownership could lead to lower subscription costs for end customers, allowing more companies to gain access to online data services at an affordable rate," added Khoo.
The Cisco 12800 Series Router delivers the industry's first field upgradeable 40 Gigabit core and edge routing solution. The Cisco 12800 Router delivers 40 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) capacity per slot with wire-speed feature performance, scalability, and proven investment protection. The Cisco 10000 Series router is the industry's only edge router that delivers consistent high-performance features with QoS for carriers deploying MPLS IP-VPN services to both broadband and private line customers. This multiservice capability allows carriers worldwide to expand their service portfolios, while reducing network complexity and operational and capital expense. The Cisco 10000's policy enforcement capability is compliant with the DSL Forum's TR-059 specification. More information available at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps133/index.html.
