HONG KONG, May 10, 2004 - When residing in what is quite possibly the most technologically advanced hotel in Asia Pacific - Langham Place Hotel Hong Kong (Langham Place Hotel), guests can take their in-room mobile Internet Protocol (IP) phone to any part of the hotel like the health club or a restaurant and continue to make and receive calls. It is also the world's first hotel to deploy Cisco's color touch-screen IP phone in every one of its guest rooms for quick access to services such as weather, news, and hotel services.

Langham Place Hotel has invested HK$35 million to develop the Hotel's information technology (IT) system, which includes an unparalleled, wired and wireless voice and data network, powered by Cisco Systems® solution.

Guests will enjoy extremely-high-speed wired and wireless Internet access in every corner of the hotel, including guest rooms, swimming pool, and even inside the elevator. Knowing casual diners may want to stay connected while enjoying the diversified food and beverage outlets, the network will be available to them.

"We aim to provide a voice and data 'Wi-Fi bubble' throughout the entire hotel, in which business travelers can enjoy the same level of connectivity and, where possible, a higher degree of convenience and speed, than they are accustomed to in their offices," said Mr. Brett Butcher, managing director of Langham Place Hotel. "With all this wired and wireless infrastructure, as well as the myriad of business-related facilities we have at Langham Place Hotel, guests will find us 'the place to do business while in Hong Kong'."

With Cisco's color touch-screen IP phones, guests will find an array of multimedia and interactive functions in the language of their choice. These functions include quick access to information about the weather, news and stock quotes, Web-based radio, and the ability to send e-mail messages.

Prompt customer service is enabled through the network as hotel staff receive guest requests and comments in real time, via personal digital assistants (PDAs) and printers. Guests can also enjoy other personalized services, such as putting their family picture on the color IP phone as custom wallpaper or pre-programming frequently dialed numbers for returning guests. These unique services help Langham Place Hotel build stronger customer relationships.

Implemented by PCCW, the Langham Place Hotel's network is based on Cisco® AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data). At the heart of the network are the Cisco Catalyst® 6509 and 3550 switches and the Cisco Aironet® 1200 Series access points. These support the popular 802.11b and new high-speed 802.11g Wi-Fi protocols.

"We are excited to be working with Langham Place Hotel to build the world's first all-wireless, all-color IP telephony-enabled hotel," remarked Mr. Frankie Sum, managing director, North Asia, Cisco Systems. "By staying at the forefront of IP technology, Langham Place Hotel has differentiated itself dramatically from the competition, and created a new paradigm for Asia's hospitality industry."
