SEOUL, Korea - July 1, 2003 - Cisco Systems, Inc., today announced that DACOM, one of the leading communications service providers in Korea, has chosen the Cisco® 12000 Series routers for the expansion of its BORANet backbone network. DACOM BORANet service is the Internet leased-line service for corporate customers, including small office-home office (SOHO) environments, and Internet PC cafes.

In an increasingly competitive broadband services market, DACOM's key strategy is to provide its customers with differentiated bundled voice services. DACOM is deploying the 10-gigabits-per-second (Gbps) Cisco 12406, 12410 and 12416 routers in its backbone network to enable a higher performance, highly reliable network that is required to handle the expected rise in network traffic.

"For communication carriers, network reliability and scalability are the most critical factors in meeting customer requirements," according to Choi, Byung-Chang, leader of Switching Network Engineering and Planning Team, DACOM. "We chose the Cisco 12000 Series Router because it provides us with the high reliability and performance required to deploy competitive new services, such as differentiated bundled voice services to our customers."

"We are very pleased to have been selected by DACOM for expansion of its BORANet backbone network. By working closely with service providers like DACOM, Cisco not only helps them to design the best state-of-the-art network, but also to accelerate the delivery of high-bandwidth, high-value services that service providers require to attract and retain customers and drive toward new levels of profitability," said Bahn, Jung-Keun, NSP Sales Manager, Cisco Systems® Korea.
