SAN JOSE, Calif., June 27, 2003 - Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced it has opened a new campus in Boxborough, Massachusetts. The new campus is a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the needs of its current employee base in the New England region. Cisco's Boxborough site brings together elements of several business organizations currently located throughout New England, including Development Engineering, Customer Advocacy, and other business functions.
"The opening of Cisco's new, centralized campus in Boxborough illustrates the company's strong commitment to a lasting technological presence in New England," said Carl Redfield, senior vice president, worldwide manufacturing operations, Cisco Systems, and New England executive sponsor. "In the almost 10 years since Cisco established its first facility in New England, we have developed a strong appreciation for the culture of innovation and quality of life in the region. Cisco's Boxborough campus will serve as a hub of technology excellence in New England, reflecting the deep and diverse local talent pool."
"We have enormous potential in Massachusetts - a diverse economy, a highly educated workforce, and major academic and research institutions," said Mitt Romney, Governor of the State of Massachusetts. "Today's announcement by Cisco is another step in reaching our full potential. We appreciate Cisco's commitment to employing our citizens and, through Cisco's many community outreach programs, also making Massachusetts an even more attractive place to live and work."
"The Boxborough facility will also allow Cisco to maximize its regional philanthropic resources by centralizing our regional community outreach efforts," continued Redfield. "We are proud to extend our knowledge and expertise to the local communities through efforts such as the Cisco Networking Academy Program and the Community Grants Program of the Cisco Systems Foundation."
The new Cisco facility comprises 350 acres of land in the Boxborough vicinity. It encompasses 430,000 square feet of office space and can accommodate up to 1,500 employees. In addition to the new facility, Cisco owns another 138-acre facility in Boxborough. Both facilities bring Cisco's total land holdings in the Boxborough area to 488 acres of land.
