SAN JOSE, Calif., November 7, 2002 - HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced a new program, called HP Intelligent Building solutions, that offers a comprehensive set of voice, data and multimedia services to enhance users' mobility, productivity and access to information. Showcased today at the official opening of the Santana Row urban community in San Jose, the HP Intelligent Building mobility architecture, combined with Cisco Systems' technology solutions, enables access to information and services virtually anytime, from anywhere.
HP Services is designing and deploying the mobility architecture to help organizations generate new revenue opportunities and to foster information sharing within virtual communities. Using the HP Intelligent Building architecture, clients can deliver applications -- such as community portals, wireless Internet access in parks and wireless curbside check-in at hotels -- as seamlessly as common parts of a property's infrastructure, like water and power. With the innovative delivery of these services, end users can enjoy convenience and mobility like never before.

Mobility in New Urban Neighborhood
HP has been working with real estate developer Federal Realty Investment Trust and Cisco Systems, Inc. to shape the environment in the new urban community Santana Row.
Santana Row is a one-of-a-kind neighborhood that blends distinctive living, shopping and dining experiences. Located in Silicon Valley, the community features international restaurants, unique shops, a 213-room boutique hotel, 255 rental residential units, a main street and parks with mobile technology and services enabled throughout the property.

The HP Intelligent Building architecture -- combined with Cisco Systems' network switching, routing, voice over IP, security, wireless and service-creation solutions -- is enabling the mobile community for Santana Row and Hotel Valencia, the premier hotel located on the property. Other applications found in Santana Row and Hotel Valencia include high-speed Internet access upon move in for retailers and residents, wireless access in parks and other open areas, an online community portal and additional services such as digital cable television.
In addition, HP is working with NXTV, Inc. to deliver state-of-the-art digital video and broadband entertainment services into Hotel Valencia.
HP Services is developing Intelligent Building solutions for hospitality, education, commercial offices and connected communities associated with government and mixed residential-retail properties and has developed four focus markets within the portfolio:
- HP Intelligent Hotel
- HP Intelligent Campus
- HP Intelligent Office
- HP Intelligent Community
The solutions are currently available in North America and are expected to be available in EMEA in early 2003. The HP Intelligent Hotel is available across Australia and the South Pacific.
Other customers implementing HP Intelligent Building solutions include the Vancouver School District, Cerritos Library, Harrah's Rincon Casino and Resort, and Wolfsburg AG.
