MANILA, Philippines - November 7, 2002 - Globe Telecom, a leading communications provider in the Philippines, is enhancing its portfolio of high-value data services with Internet Data Center (IDC) services. The services are being launched by its GlobeQuest unit, as part of a suite of Corporate Data solutions that include Managed Network Services, Broadband Internet, Broadband Access and Corporate Voice Services.
Built over a network powered by equipment from Cisco Systems, Globe is now offering co-location, managed bandwidth, outsourced messaging and web-hosting and is looking to add advanced application hosting, content networking and storage area networking to its suite of IDC services. Globe has a strong reputation for offering innovative and reliable services. The company's move into IDC services will play a significant role in the development of a thriving indigenous Internet environment in the Philippines. The services will be branded GlobeQuest DataCenters.
"Our new IDC services are consistent with the objectives of GlobeQuest: to discover the best solutions with rigor and perseverance. This is reflected in the technological solutions the group provides and the way our team builds relationships with our clients. Our proposition is to create relevant solutions for business customers," said Gil B. Genio, SVP and Head of Wireline Business, Globe Telecom.
"Filipinos have matured in sophistication in how they use the Internet. They are now refining their business processes and moving from pure connectivity for e-mail and file transfers to e-commerce and content management to take advantage of newer Internet technologies. As a leading service provider in the country, Globe needs to ensure that we have the services to meet our customers' needs," said Jesus Romero, Head of Wireline Data, Globe Telecom.
The Cisco products utilized in GlobeQuest's network include Cisco 12400 routers, Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 3550 switches and the Cisco 1105 Hosting Solution Engine. In addition, Globe has deployed additional several Cisco 12400 routers into its core IP network - the first router-based wide area Gigabit IP backbone in the Philippines - enhancing the company's ability to deliver next-generation converged voice, video and data services. The Cisco 12400 allows Globe to upgrade by tenfold its current 1Gbps backbone to 10Gbps.
"We have worked closely with Globe for many years and provide the infrastructure for most of their IP services. The company has shown a strong desire to continue to meet the needs of their customers. The new IDC services will also enable Globe to move up the value chain for service providers in the Internet era towards content networking services," said Raymond Huang, Country Manager for Cisco Systems in the Philippines.
"Already, the market is shifting from pure access to value added services such as web-hosting and IP-VPNs. The market acceptance of such services will be the catalyst for application hosting services, the delivery of an application provided by a service provider to a business customer. And with the infrastructure they have already built, Globe can evolve even further to delivering voice and video services over its IP network," he added.
