SAN JOSE, Calif., November 19, 2002 - Cisco Systems, Inc. announced today the introduction of four new IT security certifications that offer network professionals the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary for designing and implementing end-to-end security solutions, while providing a clear career path in the IT security market. The certifications include a professional-level career certification; the Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP), and three new Cisco Qualified Specialist focused certifications; the Cisco Firewall Specialist, Cisco VPN Specialist and Cisco IDS Specialist. This announcement supports Cisco's security strategy to embed security throughout the network, making it a transparent, scalable, and manageable aspect of any business infrastructure.

The security certifications were created in response to the heightened customer and channel partner demand for knowledgeable network professionals who can design, build, and implement security solutions including Cisco Secure networks.

The Cisco Certified Security Professional recognizes the increased importance placed on today's IT professionals who are responsible for developing business solutions and integrating security devices with the underlying network architectures. The Cisco Qualified Specialist certifications enable individuals to achieve the highest level of technical knowledge and expertise in Cisco specific security technologies and solutions including intrusion detection, firewall and VPN.

Training and Exams

The Cisco Certified Security Professional is valid for three years and the focused certifications are valid for two years. To obtain these certifications, individuals must have a valid CCNA. and take and pass the corresponding exams.
