SAN JOSE, Calif., October 22, 2002 - Cisco Systems, Inc., today announced the addition of two new wireless local area network (LAN) focused certifications to the Cisco Career Certification Program. The Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist and the Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist certifications validate a candidate's knowledge of wireless LAN products and solutions. Cisco Aironet® wireless products support both IEEE 802.11a and 802.11b technologies and are compatible with Cisco core networking equipment.

Analysts concur that the Wireless LAN market is set for strong growth worldwide. Wireless LAN shipments are on pace to grow 73 percent in 2002, while revenue will increase 26 percent, according to Dataquest Inc., a unit of Gartner, Inc. Revenue will reach almost $2.8 billion in 2003, up from $2.1 billion in 2002.

Organizations around the world are deploying overlay and freestanding wireless networks to increase employee productivity, reduce costs and overcome obstacles to traditional wired connections. Individuals who become certified as a Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist will have the expertise required to design, install and sell Cisco wireless LANs to address new market demands, grow their business and add credibility with customers and prospects.

The Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist will have knowledge and expertise in building and maintaining end-to-end wireless network connections. This certification focuses on the Cisco Aironet wireless LAN products with applications for enterprise, small and medium-sized business customers.
