Cisco's AVVID solution provides flexible, scalable and cost-effective telephony solution for New Zealand's biggest brewer
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - August 24, 2002 - Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, has supplied one of New Zealand's largest Internet Protocol Telephony solutions to Lion Nathan, enabling the brewing company to take advantage of productivity gains offered by IP.
The deployment of a Cisco Systems Internet Protocol (IP) solution across Lion Nathan's Auckland site supports more than 400 staff from Lion Breweries, New Zealand Wines and Spirits and Lion Nathan's associated businesses. Lion Nathan expects to extend the Auckland solution to 30 Wellington-based staff.
Enabled by Cisco Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data (AVVID), the solution consolidates voice, video and data onto a single converged network to provide enterprise Lion Nathan with unparalleled flexibility and productivity gains. The IP-based solution enables Lion Nathan staff greater autonomy to monitor and manage communications more efficiently.
Lion Nathan's Chief Information Officer, Darryl Warren said: "The existing PABX technology was 15 years old and had not been upgraded for many years, so the deployment of Cisco IP technology not only made logistical sense, it but also provided a cost-effective and highly scalable foundation to meet our current and emerging communications needs."
The migration from legacy systems to Cisco IP telephony was conducted over a period of two weekends in conjunction with Cisco systems integrater, Telecom New Zealand, and voicemail and contact centre application provider, Zeacom.
Zeacom Marketing Manager, Mike Engle, said convergence is changing the way New Zealanders work. "Lion Nathan has an incredibly mobile workforce, with executives travelling internationally on a regular basis. Zeacom's Corus application is making it possible for Lion Nathan's staff to access voicemail and email all in one place, no matter where their business takes them," Mr Engle said.
The solution blends Cisco digital and analog technology, removing the need to re-cable the telephony connections to every phone point on the site. Lion Nathan is also migrating its contact centre onto the Cisco IP system. The network is based on the incorporation of Cisco Catalyst 3550 and 2924 Series Switches, Cisco VG248 Voice Gateway and Cisco 7910, 7940, 7960 IP Phones.
Cisco New Zealand Country Manager, Tim Hemingway said Cisco AVVID was the perfect solution for a global organisation such as Lion Nathan, as it brought ease of use, ubiquity and power of an Internet based voice solution into their business.
"Breaking apart the traditional telephony infrastructure improves communication and network efficiencies and also reduces operational costs," Mr Hemingway said.
