SAN JOSE, Calif., March 18, 2002 - Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, showcases its Complete Optical Multiservice Edge and Transport (COMET) portfolio along with Dynamic Packet Transport/Resilient Packet Ring (DPT/RPR) solutions at OFC in Anaheim. The demo will feature components of the Cisco COMET portfolio shown for the first time, including extended long-haul capabilities on the ONS 15808 DWDM System as well as line-rate Gigabit Ethernet functionality for the ONS 15454 Multiservice Provisioning Platform. The OFC demonstration will also include the new Cisco ONS 15194 Transport Concentrator.

The Cisco ONS 15808 Long-Haul/Extended Long-Haul DWDM system enables service providers to meet Internet demands for high-capacity circuits while reducing transport cost per bit. With advanced technology enhancements allowing for tighter channel spacing, increased channel capability, higher bit rate, and greatly extended transmission distances, the ONS 15808 is designed to deliver service providers key requirements for cost-effective long-haul transport.

The four-port Gigabit Ethernet transport card enables Gigabit Ethernet traffic over an ONS 15454 SONET network, delivering high data capacity with exceptional density over any network topology with no additional hardware or software requirements. Together with the ONS 15454, the line-rate Gigabit Ethernet card allows a service provider or enterprise customer to cost-effectively migrate to data centric solutions, while maintaining carrier class reliability and scalability for high-bandwidth services.

The Cisco ONS 15194 is a high-density, high-performance IP transport management platform offering carrier-class IP transport services within the point of presence (PoP), regional metro, and metro access rings. The demo, which will run over bandwidth allocated by an ONS 15454 OC-192 ring, will showcase how Cisco's DPT/RPR networks distribute IP and Ethernet services on the metro edge with the Cisco 10720 Internet Router. Designed to support OC-48/STM-16, the Cisco ONS 15194 is a superior scaling and management solution for DPT/RPR and POS networks, and is also a central management point.
