NEW DELHI, India -- 15 January 2002 -- Wipro, one of the beacons of the Indian IT revolution, and Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced the setting up of an IP-based converged communications infrastructure at Wipro's global technology services division – Wipro Technologies.

Based on Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data), the new infrastructure will provide end-to-end voice and video services within all locations of Wipro Technologies. The solution integrates Cisco's complete range of IP-telephony solutions for a Closed User Group enterprise network and is made of the Cisco Call manager software and IP phones, the Cisco Catalyst 4000 and 6500 voice ready switches as well as the Cisco Unity Unified Messaging service.

"Wipro Technologies works out of 20 offices across the world. Each of these offices is committed to providing mission-critical business support services to their clients. Given our formidable reputation on the world stage, our clients expect nothing but the best from us. To ensure and sustain the highest level of client satisfaction, we provide our employees with the best infrastructure support possible. It is here that Cisco's converged IP-based communications system fits in," said Sudip Banerjee, Chief Executive - Operations and Staffing, Wipro Technologies.

He added: "Cisco's AVVID-based solution not only lowers phone call costs but also integrates voice with the data network – thereby simplifying network administration. A converged system enables the network users to increase productivity and provides administrators the flexibility to meet expanding telephone needs well into the future."

Along with the IP telephony solutions, Cisco has also implemented a comprehensive LAN Switching solution consisting of Gigabit Ethernet connectivity at the core of the network, while delivering speeds of 10/100 Mbps at each and every desktop across all the Wipro Technologies Development Centers globally. WAN connectivity between Centers is enabled using Cisco 7200 series routers at the core, and Cisco 3660 series routers at the edge - in the required access locations.

"Wipro is to India what Cisco is to the US – both our companies are bellwethers for the New World economy and both our companies have the toughest standards of quality, shareholder value consciousness and customer focus. Therefore, it is only natural that Wipro Technologies opted for Cisco's IP-based communication solutions for its entire network," said B Ashok, Vice President, Sales, Cisco India.
