Cisco Makes Solid Market Share Gains in India according to Market Researcher IDC

Records landmark marketshare in the Router & Switch markets

NEW DELHI, India -- 29 January 2002 -- Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, increased its share of the router and switch markets in India according to IDC's Q3 2001 report on the networking industry. The report names Cisco as the No.1 networking vendor in the country, having grown its market share across all the LAN (Local Area Network) product categories. Cisco's overall average market shares across total LAN products for the first three quarters of 2001 stood at 60.8% compared to 46.72% for the same period last year.

"2001 has been a challenging year for the industry and economy alike globally. We are very pleased with the results of the most recent IDC report on the market. By focusing on the customer, we have continued to increase market share. We will continue to focus on our core market and continue to deliver the industry's leading end to end networking solutions. We especially see good opportunities in the enterprise, banking, small and medium business and ISP sectors," said Manoj Chugh, President, Cisco Systems Inc, India & SAARC.

The Enterprise and SMB segment, with Government, PSUs and Banking and Financial sectors being the major consumers, predominantly drove the growth in the Indian networking market.

In the overall router segment as per IDC, Cisco consistently maintained over 90% in the three quarters of 2001 and registered its highest marketshare - 92.2% at the end of Q3 '01.

In the overall switch segment as per IDC, Cisco has consistently grown marketshare Quarter on Quarter to close at 48.7% at the end of Q3 '01, it's highest marketshare ever.
