SAN JOSE, Calif., December 6, 2001 - Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced that IntelliSpace, the world's first Ethernet Internet Protocol (IP) broadband services provider has selected the Cisco 7600 Series Internet Router to support IP broadband growth throughout its global network.
IntelliSpace is using the Cisco 7600 in the backbone of its network to support more than 1,000 Ethernet-wired buildings and more than 60,000 connected business users worldwide. IntelliSpace also will deploy the Cisco 7600 throughout its global network Points of Presence (PoPs). As an integrated, single-box solution, the Cisco 7600 allows for rich, high-performance services while simplifying network management, troubleshooting and administration and conserving valuable space within each POP. In addition, the Cisco 7600 provides Intellispace with network expenditure savings via hardware investment protection as interfaces supported on existing Cisco equipment within the network can be re-deployed in the new Cisco 7600 systems purchased.

IntelliSpace also selected the Cisco 7600 for its flexible features to help protect network security, aid efficient network utilization and help enable smooth rollout of new profit generating services to their growing customer base. One such example is the Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR) feature utilized by the Cisco 7600. Unique to Cisco, NBAR is a software-enabled classification engine designed to recognize a wide variety of application level protocols. This feature will further assist Intellispace in reducing its vulnerability to network virus attacks such as Code Red and Nimda. In addition, the recently announced Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Virtual Private Network (VPN) capabilities on the Cisco 7600 will enable Intellispace with another option for introducing this functionality into its network, enhancing its traffic management capabilities and providing flexible new services to its customers.
The Cisco 7600 Series Internet Router delivers optical wide- and metropolitan-area network (WAN and MAN) services with high-touch IP services at the network edge. Service providers (SPs) and enterprises can "service enable" their networks at optical speeds, providing competitive advantage and service differentiation to the SP and high-speed connectivity and link usage efficiency to the enterprise. The Cisco 7600 is an important component of Cisco's end-to-end IP+Optical offerings, which help SPs break through service and bandwidth barriers to increase new revenue and profits.
