SAN JOSE, Calif., October 31, 2001 - Cisco Systems the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced availability for the latest edition of its CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management solution (VMS). Cisco VMS 2.0 offers customers a comprehensive set of tools providing extended visibility into business-critical virtual private network (VPN) and secure IT infrastructures.

Cisco VMS is a complete solution that combines web-based applications for configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting enterprise VPNs, firewall security, and network and host-based intrusion detection systems (IDSs).

"Cisco VMS provides us with a single solution to centrally manage our Cisco PIX® Firewalls. When considering to offer cost-effective remote access VPNs to our employees, we know VMS also offers the ability to audit and monitor the performance of those VPNs," said Michael Bernardo, Network Manager, Milton Hershey School District

Specifically designed to support the SAFE security blueprint for Cisco AVVID - the Cisco Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data, Cisco VMS 2.0 includes Cisco Secure Policy Manager (CSPM), Cisco VPN Monitor, Cisco IDS Host Sensor and Cisco Resource Manager Essentials (RME).

New to this version of Cisco VMS is the management console for the Cisco IDS Host Sensor, bringing host-based intrusion protection, detecting and blocking malicious activity against servers. This helps protect the network from known and unknown attacks, including threats such as the Nimda virus and Code Red worm.

Included in Cisco VMS is the latest release of CSPM, giving customers comprehensive policy-based support for Cisco's PIX Firewall family, IOSTM routers, VPN and network-based IDS solutions. On CSPM Bernardo added, "we are impressed with this new version of CSPM because it provides a new easy-to-use task and rules-based GUI to manage our PIX firewalls."

Another key component of the Cisco VMS 2.0 is the Cisco VPN monitor, which provides customers with a dash-board view of VPN resources performance, and now supports the Cisco 1700, 2600 and 3600 series routers. The solution also supports the VPN 3000 concentrator, and Cisco 7100 and 7200 series VPN routers.

"Today's customers require a comprehensive solution for security and VPN management," said John McCormack, senior director for Cisco's Network Management Services Technology Group. "The latest release of the award-winning CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution reaffirms Cisco's leadership and commitment to security and VPN management."
