SAN JOSE, Calif., September 4, 2001 - ipVerse, a leading supplier of open softswitch solutions bridging voice and packet-based networks, has successfully completed interoperability with the Cisco System "Any Service, Any Port (ASAP)" architecture for its AS5000 series of universal gateways and ipVerse's signaling and call control platform, ControlSwitch, in ipVerse's advanced testing labs. Working in tandem with Cisco's universal port products, ControlSwitch's softswitch applications enable service providers to extend the life of their existing Remote Access Servers (RAS) to offer Voice Over IP (VoIP) services. Having already completed interoperability with a wide range of Cisco products, including Integrated Access Devices (IADs) and media gateways, ipVerse and Cisco continue to work closely to provide converged voice-data solutions for service providers.

By providing direct control of standards-based RAS devices, including those provided by Cisco, ipVerse ControlSwitch enables service providers to offload dial-up modem traffic and efficiently reroute it to the packet network. ipVerse now makes it possible for service providers to use these same RAS devices to offer a selection of softswitch-based voice and converged voice-data services, including local, long distance and wireless, that can be distributed across packet networks.

"Service providers need different types of gateways for different market segments and applications with the softswitch providing centralized call control and intelligence. So it's essential that the portfolio of gateway products we have, including our RAS, media gateway and IAD products, interoperate with the industry's leading softswitch vendors including ipVerse and their carrier-class ControlSwitch," said Alistair Woodman, Director of Marketing, Voice Technology Center at Cisco Systems. "We're thrilled to continue our close relationship with ipVerse and provide carrier-grade solutions for service provider customers."

ipVerse has completed interoperability with an array of Cisco devices including the Cisco AS5000 series Universal Gateways, high density media gateways, such as the Cisco MGX8850 and Cisco MGX8260, in addition to the Cisco 2400, 2600, 3600, and 7200 series of IADs. To deliver a full suite of softswitch-based services, ipVerse has worked with these Cisco products to deploy applications including Integrated Voice and Data for Businesses, Packet Toll Tandem, H.323 bridging, and PRI Offload.

"As an independent softswitch vendor, ipVerse is committed to working with service providers' preferred system vendors, such as Cisco, in order to provide freedom of choice when determining the multi-vendor network solution and media devices to best meet their needs," said R. Paul Singh, VP of Business Development, ipVerse, Inc. "As ipVerse evolves its service offerings on its core softswitch platform, we look forward to continuing our support of Cisco products."
