TAIPEI, Taiwan -- 3 July 2001 -- Acer CyberCentre Services, Inc.(ACCSI), an affiliate of Acer Group, has chosen Cisco Systems Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, to provide networking equipment for its Internet Data Center (iDC) operations in Taiwan. ACCSI is a leader in the iDC market in the Greater China region.

ACCSI operates two major iDC facilities in Taiwan, one in Taipei and a second at Acer's headquarters in Aspire Park in Lung Ttan. The Aspire Park facility, more than 2,300 square metres upon completion, will provided a full range of services to business customers in Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong. ACCSI offers co-location, performance-based Web hosting, application hosting, enterprise IT outsourcing, multimedia content delivery and distribution, storage/backup and disaster recovery services.

"Acer CyberCenter Services is very pleased to be working with Cisco Systems as our network infrastructure provider of choice. We believe that Cisco will help us to achieve our objective of becoming one of the leading iDC service providers in the region," said Simon Chang, President of ACCSI.

"We are very pleased to be working with Acer CyberCenter Services in developing their iDC infrastructure. We believe that the combination of Cisco infrastructure and ACCSI service will allow them to offer one of the best iDC solutions in the region," said Gordon Astles, President, Cisco Asia Pacific.

ACCSI uses an end-to-end networking solution from Cisco for both iDC facilities. The ACCSI network is based on the Cisco 12000 series high-speed Internet routers, Cisco 7500 series routers, and Cisco Catalyst 6500 switches, which together direct data traffic across a series of high-bandwidth OC3 backbones links.

The Cisco 12000 series is the industry's premier, highest performance Internet routing platform featuring unmatched configuration versatility and a superior distributed architecture - a key component of the Cisco IP+Optical solution that minimizes service provider operational costs and increases service velocity for transport, IP, and value-added services.

The industry-leading Cisco 7500 Series of routers provides the network with a plethora of multi-protocol LAN and WAN applications with advanced IP services, reliability, diverse network media interfaces, and performance.

The Cisco Catalyst 6000 family of intelligent multi-layer, gigabit switches can transmit data at 15 million packets per second and provides advanced network services through Cisco IOS software.

The ACCSI network also employs the Cisco 11000 series for content networking and Cisco PIX product line for network security. The Cisco 11000 series Content Smart Switches provide unmatched content networking for high-traffic Web sites and Web-hosting infrastructures. The Cisco PIX Device Manager and Cisco PIX Firewall offers the highest possible perimeter security to the network.
