HOPKINTON, Mass., SAN JOSE, and REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., May 23, 2001 — E-business infrastructure leaders EMC Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc. and Oracle Corporation, today announced the second major expansion of their ECOstructure (EMC/Cisco/Oracle Infrastructure) initiative with the unveiling of a new blueprint, entitled Accelerated, that will enable organizations to deploy standard configurations for optimized information access. This blueprint is the latest effort by the three companies to reduce complexity and ease implementations of their joint solutions for customers. In addition, as part of this initiative expansion, approved solution providers will now be able to incorporate ECOstructure best practices into their offerings, which helps further improve the customer experience.
The new Accelerated blueprint, the third released in the past 13 months, is available for downloading at the jointly managed Web site: http://www.eECOstructure.com. Accelerated incorporates storage networking and content caching technologies from all three companies. Utilizing a combination of static and dynamic content caching, storage area networking (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS), the blueprint details integrated best practices and optimized configurations to deliver fast, secure, reliable access for growing Web environments. The previous blueprints, Resilient and Recovery, are designed to maximize information availability and for business continuance.
Kevin Vasconi, Chief Technology Officer at Covisint, the automotive industry e-business exchange, said, "Internet technology is allowing the automotive industry to speed the flow of material through the supply chain, increase response to consumer demand, and deliver new products to market faster than ever before. Covisint is taking advantage of the ECOstructure blueprints to create the most efficient model for transforming the supply chain in order to reinforce our customer's competitiveness."
As part of the expanded initiative, additional companies, including a range of solution providers, will be able to offer value-added solutions and services based on the best practices of the ECOstructure architectures. These solutions include enterprise systems integration, managed hosting services and architectural overlays that further help customers speed, simplify and improve the deployment of ECOstructure blueprints. These solution providers will have access to marketing and technical resources to assist with the development and deployment of solutions based on the various blueprints.
One of these solution providers, Oracle Consulting, is training consultants to deliver ECOstructure-based solutions to clients around the globe. "All successful e-business implementations depend on a well-architected technical infrastructure, and ECOstructure is exactly that," said Dave O'Neill, Vice-President, Architecture and Technology at Oracle Consulting. "On this secure and scalable e-business foundation we can deploy an unlimited variety of services that can increase our customers' revenue and reduce their costs. ECOstructure blueprints give Oracle Consulting a major weapon in our war on complexity — driving down cost of ownership, increasing ROI and decreasing time to market."
Other solution providers already utilizing the blueprints include: American Power Conversion (APC), Bull Infrastructure & Systems (Bull I&S), Cap Gemini, Ernst & Young (CGEY), Comdisco, Exodus Communications, KPMG Consulting and NaviSite.
Since the introduction of the Resilient high availability blueprint in April 2000, and the Recovery business continuance blueprint in October 2000, there have been more than 11,000 unique global registrations for the blueprints. Additional blueprint development work is underway at both the U.S. and Japan ECOstructure joint architecture centers. The three companies are also showcasing and demonstrating the ECOstructure blueprints to customers and prospects at Oracle's Enterprise Technology Center in the United Kingdom and will soon be showcasing them at Oracle's Advanced Technology Center in Reston, Virginia. Additional worldwide ECOstructure demonstration centers will include CGEY's Advanced Development Centers and in Bull I&S and Integris' European Competence Center in France.
The ECOstructure blueprints are based on EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and software, EMC Connectrix Fibre Channel switches and EMC Celerra Network File Servers; the Cisco 7000 Series routers, Catalyst 6000 family switches, Cisco Content Services Switches, Cisco Content Engines, Cisco Secure PIX firewall and the Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System; and the Oracle database and Oracle9i Application Server. The blueprints support thousands of third-party ISV applications and the Oracle E-Business Suite. ECOstructure is complementary to Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data).
