The Nobel Foundation has selected Cisco Systems Inc. as its Internet technology partner to support the Nobel e-Museumhelping to reach a worldwide audience through the Internet as the Nobel Foundation celebrates its 100th Anniversary.
The Nobel e-Museum - NeM - was established in 1995 as a virtual museum of science and culture. The site, which doubles as the Nobel Foundation's official Web site, features the work of more than 700 winners of the Nobel Prizes over the last century. Cisco was the Foundation's choice to enhance and expand the site.
Cisco will help the Nobel Foundation upgrade its networking capabilities and provide technology, equipment and consulting services.
Increased networking capabilities will allow for dynamic new e-content covering a broad range of subjects from Science and Technology to Literature and Peace. A state-of-the-art infrastructure will better equip the NeM to handle global Web traffic and provide visitors with increased access to Nobel activities and information such as online lectures, video-on-demand and high-quality Web publishing. New technology, equipment and services will enable the Foundation to take advantage of the Internet in its daily operations, streamlining work and positioning the site for more enhancements.

The Nobel Foundation, established on June 29, 1900, is the central body of the Nobel organization responsible for awarding the Nobel Prizes. It manages the assets made available through the will of Alfred Nobel for the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace (first awarded in 1901) and is entrusted to protect the common interests of the prize awarding institutions: the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Swedish Academy, Karolinska Institute, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
