Crosswave Comunications to Build Next Generation Network with Cisco IP + Optical Solution

HONG KONG, December 4, 2000 -Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO), the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced that Crosswave Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: CWCI), Japan's pioneer in broadband data communications, has purchased and deployed an evolutionary IP+Optical networking solution from Cisco to further enhance New World services on their broadband network. Based on Cisco's ONS 15454 Optical Transport Platform, these new services will provide advanced, high-speed, cost-effective, end-to-end data communications services to business Internet users.

Crosswave will immediately start providing new broadband services, through direct fiber access, to large customer premises and Internet Data centers located in the metropolitan Tokyo area.

Crosswave offers broadband data communication services on Japan's first nationwide fiber-optic network specifically designed and dedicated to data traffic. "We are now able to realize the benefits of a flexible and scalable network that is easy to manage while at the same time providing enormous bandwidth by deploying the most advanced network technologies provided by the industry leaders," said Toshiya Asaba, Chief Technology Officer of Crosswave.
