Wireless Broadband Service Earns Cisco Powered Network Status

DALLAS - November 28, 2000 - airBand Communications Inc., a provider of high-speed wireless Internet access, today announced the debut of its new broadband services in Dallas. airBand also announced today that its new service has qualified as a Cisco Powered Network (CPN) service.

"airBand Communications provides fast service for fast companies," said airBand CEO and founder Andrew Lombard. "We're providing the next generation of high-speed broadband access to customers currently outside the local loop, and we are providing that access within days instead of weeks or months. By deploying Cisco's market leading technology, we are better able to meet our customers' high expectations."

airBand Communications is deploying a nationwide ultra high-speed, wireless broadband network with service offerings up to 10 Mbps, at least ten times faster than DSL. Since airBand's network bypasses a wired infrastructure, the connection is reliable, quickly installed and affordable. Dallas is the first market launched in an aggressive national rollout schedule.

Service providers under the Cisco Powered Network program demonstrate maintenance of high levels of network quality by building services with Cisco equipment. AirBand's designation as a Cisco Powered Network provider indicates its ability to provide industry-leading technology solutions and services based on Cisco solutions. In addition, airBand will be able to offer its customers - small- to mid-sized companies - New World services that offer the benefits of leading-edge technologies and services.

With its broadband wireless offerings, airBand provides its customers with high-performance and reliable secure network services. airBand operates and maintains a state-of-the-art network designed to accommodate IP-based applications and traffic. By focusing on the need for high-speed data access, airBand is able to deliver a superior customer experience.

"A company with CPN qualification provides its customers with a network service built on high-performance, reliable and secure components," said Kevin Outcalt, senior director of service provider marketing for Cisco. "airBand's commitment to customers and to the delivery of advanced services through an industry-leading, best-of-breed infrastructure aligns with Cisco's vision for New World services."

Cisco's 12000 series high-end IP routing platform, and the Cisco uBR7246 Universal Broadband Router have been chosen to support airBand's national service rollout. airBand shall be amongst first to market in the implementation of Cisco's UNII broadband fixed wireless solution. Additionally, Cisco Information Center, based on the Netcool suite from Micromuse, Inc., and Cisco WAN Manager provide network and element management. airBand also benefits from its Cisco Powered Network designation through joint marketing and technology sharing activities with Cisco.
