The game will be web-cast live on the private University of California campus system for students, faculty and staff only. On Sunday, November 19, beginning at 9 a.m., the game will be available to the worldwide public on a tape-delay basis at www.calbears.com. "Having Cisco and Cal team up to provide cutting-edge technology so that fans around the world can watch the Big Game makes perfect sense," said Cal Athletic Director John Kasser. "Both are pioneers and leaders in their respective fields, and we are proud to be partners in this venture."
University students, faculty-members and employees with access to the private University of California campus network will be able to watch the game live on Saturday. Due to broadcast restrictions, the game will not be shown live on the public Internet until Sunday. At that time, anyone with access to the Internet can log onto www.calbears.com to watch the game at any time after 9 a.m., P.S.T.
In addition to supporting the Big Game, Cisco is also providing networking equipment and services to the university, which will be used in a variety of areas, including adding enhancements to the press box at Memorial Stadium. This will allow Internet access for national score-checking, Internet and email access for staff and media, and for potential future applications such as video streaming. Cisco's equipment will also be used to improve the athletic department's network reliability and performance and add new wireless LAN capabilities.
Cal is regarded as one of the top-ranked public academic institutions in the world, and features one of the most successful, broad-based athletic programs in the country. The Golden Bears feature 27 intercollegiate sports and are represented by over 900 student-athletes. Last year, Cal ranked 14th in athletic performance among all colleges nationwide, as judged by the annual Sears Cup rankings.
