SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 23, 2000 - Cisco Systems Inc., the leader in networking for the Internet, today announced extensions to its CiscoWorks2000 Routed WAN (RWAN) and LAN Management Solutions offering customers new management capabilities for evolving enterprise networks. With the availability of CiscoWorks2000 Device Fault Manager (DFM) 1.0, customers can now retrieve real-time Cisco device fault analysis information and address critical local and wide area network conditions for timely resolution.
The new CiscoWorks2000 enhancements extend Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice and Video Integrated Data) by continuing to address the management requirements of today's network infrastructures. "With enterprise customers evolving their networks to deploy services such as voice and VPNs, powerful management tools are crucial," said Jeff Krause, vice president and general manager of the Cisco Enterprise Management Business Unit. "The new capabilities in the CiscoWorks2000 RWAN and LAN Management Solutions, including fault analysis, voice and VPN features, give our customers the confidence to deploy these emerging network services with the assurance of required management support."
New Voice and VPN Management Capabilities Spanning the LAN and Routed WAN
Enhancements to the CiscoWorks2000 RWAN and LAN Management Solutions now include voice and VPN management functionality for comprehensive management of the evolving network. The Resource Manager Essentials application, included in both the RWAN and LAN Management Solutions supports a variety of Cisco voice and VPN platforms and technologies. Providing easy accessibility to VPN configuration, inventory, and analysis tasks from the CiscoWorks2000 management desktop. Customers can deploy VPNs and IP-enabled voice technologies with the assurance that the appropriate management support is in place.
For voice management in the campus LAN environment, the LAN Management Solution now provides advanced troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities. Users can now trace phone call paths across the network, identify performance issues that may affect voice quality, associate IP phone numbers and users with IP addresses and switch ports the phones are attached to. Additionally all voice-enabled platforms can be identified and displayed on network maps for comprehensive views of the network.
The RWAN Management Solution also includes enhanced network response time and availability troubleshooting capabilities. The Internetwork Performance Monitor (IPM) 2.2 application, now available on the Windows NT platform, gives customers a web-enabled pro-active network response time and availability tool that identifies and troubleshoots potential network performance problems before they occur. With advanced latency analysis capabilities for VPNs, IPM 2.2 aids customers in quickly identifying potential performance issues or bottlenecks associated with VPN related traffic performance.
New CiscoWorks2000 Device Fault Manager for Comprehensive Device Fault Analysis
The CiscoWorks2000 Device Fault Manager (DFM) gathers Cisco device fault analysis information and notifies operators of critical network conditions via intelligent Cisco traps. These Cisco specific device faults can be viewed in a real-time CiscoWorks2000 display and also be forwarded for additional analysis to other multi-device, multi-vendor enterprise management systems installed in the network for added analysis. Supporting over 100 of the most common Cisco devices, DFM provides comprehensive, out-of-the-box fault management capabilities designed to evolve and grow with a customer's network.
"Having the ability to quickly identify and resolve network device fault scenarios is imperative to maintain optimal network performance," said Karen Anderson, Network Analyst at San Diego State University. "DFM gives us instantaneous access and analysis capabilities to these network conditions, and the ability for immediate notification when issues arise."
Pricing and Availability
The CiscoWorks2000 Device Fault Manager is available today as an add-on product to the CiscoWorks2000 family.
